Are you Organised or are you Simon?

  1. (Yes, it's another waste-of-time thread, as I shy away from depressing thoughts)

Are you Organised or Disorganised?

My 'diet' is madness. I'm so disorganised, and can't make decisions easily, that even this uncomplicated list of available food items presents many dilemmas:

Mixed veg (bowl)

2 satsumas

Pack of apple slices

Fat-free, sugar-free, yoghurt-free, born-three yoghurt

I don't know whether to eat all, some, or none in a day. Or in which order. And I panic, unnecessarily, that I might cross the dreaded threshold of over 300 calories. So, arranging a day's menu is an adventure in anarchy, indecision and confusion. I don't even need to diet...

I always thought that autists were very controlled people who organised their activities as much as possible. Yet, despite my routine anarchy, my pre-assessment application form apparently contained more red flags than Stalin's shed.

*Anyway, are you organised or disorganised in your daily life?*

  • I hope you eat more than that most days! Unless you are massively obese, that is not nearly enough food. You need to eat protein and carbs to fuel your body and brain as well as the good healthy fruit and veg.

As the actual question, I would have said i am disorganised as that is what I have always been accused of and feel things are generally a bit out of control. But in fact it seems I am probably more on the organised half of all available options, just less organised than the elusive 'most people'!

I wake up usually between 7 and 8, have coffee and water (12 gulps, in 3 lots 4 20-30 mins apart) OK that sounds quite autistic doesn't it?! Except the not same exact time thing. After an hour or so reading/on the laptop, I have breakfast, the same breakfast every day because I like it, it's healthy and I don't have to make decisions. Then I have free time which is not structured and often gets frittered away. Then coffee and lunch. These coffees are brought to me by my lovely husband, who has more structured routines than me, or the time of the midday one would vary more! Lunch is a sandwich, usually the same, though I am getting bored with it. We have a healthy dinner, he cooks, we decide between of the options from our weekly food order. Another coffee after dinner, and I have to take meds with food before bed, preferably a banana, but there were no bananas this week! That put me about a bit.

The rest of my time is not structured and I am very bad at doing organising tasks like admin or tidying up or housework. I have 3 online lessons a week and enjoy my homework, but often put it off until the last minute, though I hate that! I try to cycle 2 or 3 times a week which is weather dependant and can drive me nuts when the weather is showery and I can't tell if it is safe as I hate getting rained on or wearing a waterproof as I would sweat too much.

Why am I writing an essay about this? Oh yes, probably because I am autistic... What was that thread about moments when you realise you aren't an imposter?

Can I even answer a simple question, am I organised or not in my daily life? I don't know, judge for yourself! But I try to write lists of jobs I need to do in the day and I sometimes get them done. But the house proclaims very loudly that i am not remotely organised. But I do feel my diet and exercise is mostly OK.

I have to take the cat to the vet in an hour, I am stressed by that and it is messing up my usual lunchtime routine, I must stop waffling and just post this. Sorry!

Sorry for being so late to reply, T:

    a) I forgot that I'd created this thread. b) Didn't wake until 4pm.

I don't even know why I'm dieting. And don't know why 300 cals should be considered significant. I struggle with maths, though, and it could be that (to me) the number 300 seems large.

PS. I hope you and yours are all good.  :)

  • 300 is not large, 5000 is large! 2-3000 depending on how active you are I think is recommended. 300 is less than what I had on my semi fasting days when I tried the  intermittent fasting thing where you eat I think it was a quarter of the normal amount on 2 days a week and whatever you want on the others.

My cat is pissed off because the vet squeezed out his anal glands, but he will probably feel better for it in the morning!

  • I have never been able to persuade any of my cats to dry the dishes. Where am I going wrong? Innocent

  • Thanks, he's asleep and seems to have forgiven me. He did hide for a while when we got home. I don't know if he's alright long term, he has been puking every few days for over a month so he had to have some blood tests too. At least they showed he doesn't have kidney disease, but there are other things it could be, some minor, some bad. Will have to wait and see.

Cats are ausome! They are very autistic little guys and also cute and fluffy.

  • I have visions of the cats tea towel holder!

  • Aww, I hope your cat is alright now. I love cats.
