Do you find that you are always eager to please people?

I spent about £350 on presents for my parents the Christmas just gone and they probably spent about £70 on me and this has happened countless times. Can you relate to this?  Is it common for autistic people to go over the top in order to please people?

Parents
  • Until I realised it wasn't being reciprocated, yes. Somehow I believed I was supposed to send everyone birthday cards and be thoughtful at the holidays. My parents might send a card but to enforce that I as the eldest take responsibility for everyone else's happiness was absurd. Most of my siblings were off getting PhDs (and help doing so) and I was stuck with out help, without a Dx, without access to resources.

Self-Care suddenly became a great asset.
