Moving Out Advice...

Hey, Is it possible to gain support when moving out when having autism. Me and my friend would like to move out but we struggle with managing money, socialising etc, due to autism and we have thought about living together. Is there any chance that two people can live together and still access support if needed? What are the next steps for us? We are at the age now where our parents are expecting us to move out but we are not independent enough and struggle a lot with things like this, what can we do?

  • It depends what you mean by support and what your relationship is. If you are a couple for tax purposes than it can effect your means testing for eligibility for certain benefits. Receiving benefits is a prerequisite for some but not all services. But aside from that I don't think living with a friend would effect your eligibility to receive any kind of assistance. And renting a house with a friend is likely to be financially easier than on your own. It sound like the next step might be to look at a needs assessment.
