I've started wearing an 'I have Autism' badge on my coat

About 3 weeks ago i started wearing this badge just to go to my local Co-op at first because i was getting really anxious, unable to make eye contact and would sometimes fumble my words at the checkout. I also wrote a letter telling the staff i am autistic and that i may appear a bit anxious, odd and socially awkward.

I didn't do this because i wanted any special treatment but just so they could understand me a bit better. Also because i felt i was making the staff there a bit uncomfortable due to being so socially awkward.

Anyway i feel much more at ease now whenever i go in there and the staff seem to be too so it's had the desired effect

If you go to any shops regularly perhaps a letter and badge would help too?

  • I've got the a Sunflower pin badge and lanyard. The badge I wear all the time, but if I am going to somewhere like the airport or hospital, then I wear the lanyard as well. Most people do understand about the Sunflower icon, but I also like the jigsaw puzzle badge as well - Roy, I think you have this - I will have to look that one up as I like pin badges anyway, especially of significant things.
