What was the last book you read?

For those of you who are into reading, what was the last book you read and/or the book you are currently reading?

The last book I read was Radio Silence by Alice Oseman and the book I'm currently reading is The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin. Two books out of my comfort zone because they are very different to what I usually read but I enjoyed/am enjoying both. I'm also reading Death Note (manga) at the moment, which is a more usual genre for me. I bought the black editions of the series recently and they look so beautiful on my bookshelves Heart eyes

  • I have not long finished The Pawn of Prophesy by David Eddings. It is the first book in a series called The Belgariad and I have just started the second; Queen of Sorcery. The series so far has been fantastic. I think I’m loving it so much due to the fact that I haven’t read fiction in years. I love fantasy and I’m finally making time for myself to enjoy it again. But also, it is really good, so I’m enjoying it for that reason too.

  • I just looked that series up and it looks really good! I haven't read fantasy in ages. I used to be a big fantasy reader and in particular I was obsessed with A Song of Ice & Fire by George RR Martin but I've fallen out of the habit of reading fantasy nowadays. I should add some to my to-read list Thinking

  • So far I’m really enjoying it. I would certainly recommend it at this point in my journey. Like you, I really enjoyed A Song of Ice & Fire, but the series stopped for a while and I think I’ve sort of moved away during the lengthy break, which doesn’t seem to have an end in sight. I did pick up the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan after though and that was excellent! I would love to forget the story and read those for the first time again.

  • I am certainly in agreement with the points you raised here. There was too much going on in the books for things to go they way they did in the show. An advantage the books had I suppose is that they could explore side stories quite fluidly, where as the tv series sort of needs to be more ‘in your face’ and obvious. Books are a bit more subtle in the way that they can deliver a story.

I can also see why your top characters are who they are, Theon is one I can actually understand though as they journey his character went on was certainly something! I quite enjoyed (reading about) a lot of the dynamics of the Night’s Watch and of the journey Arya went on. Although he was quite an obvious character, I really liked Jon. The development of Jamie’s character throughout was certainly interesting too.

  • The show disappointed me so much (and disappointed so many others judging by the reactions to the final season). I definitely don't consider the show to be the true ending as I just can't believe that George RR Martin would have written any of that into his books.

So, in my mind, the series is forever stuck at the fifth book, and the show after season 4 simply doesn't exist Laughing

Don't worry about derailing! I like when threads take on a life of their own Blush My top three favourite characters are Sansa, Jaime, and Theon. I have a soft spot for Theon in particular - I know many people dislike him and it's understandable, but I am just in awe of how expertly written his characterisation and story arc are.
