Newly diagnosed, but I regret not asking the clinical psychologist about what it means for me to have Autism as an adult?

Hello everyone,

I'm newly diagnosed with Autism, the clinical psychologist said to me that it was clear from speaking with my mum the year and a half prior and doing the ADOS-2 Module 4 that I was indeed Autistic, I didn't say much else and just said to her that I now understand why I struggled with a lot of things in life when it comes to socialising, making friends, relationships and routines etc., but I regret not asking her questions when it comes to what happens next regarding post diagnosis and stuff like that? She did say that my GP would be involved and I'm assuming I wasn't masking because I felt that I was myself there if that makes sense? Just feel like I've been masking most times and it was hard for me to be myself before I was diagnosed. Now I just feel like I'm myself and I'm glad to be diagnosed too.

  • Congratulations on your autistic discovery! I am so glad you feel more like your autistic self, you deserve to proud of your autistic identity  Unfortunately, there is very little formal post diagnostic support for our community, the best source of knowledge and support is fellow autistics. We can support and learn from each other.

Good luck on your autistic discovery journey, we are here for you!

The website and YouTube channel Aucademy is absolutely brilliant! Aucademy is an autistic led education platform about autistic experience. I hope you find it as useful and interesting as I do.
