Newly diagnosed at 58 and antidepressants

Hi

I have recently discovered that i have an ASD. It all makes sense. One of my concerns is about medication. I have been very slowly tapering off venlafaxine for the past 3 years from 150mg to my current dose of 94mg. I am doing this because i wanted to experience life free of the side effects and to feel more me. Now i have discovered my diagnosis, i am wondering thatbit is likely that my behaviours and symptoms associated with asd will become more apparent. X

  • I think finding out you are autistic will be the thing that will allow you to find yourself. I don’t think coming off the medication will make much difference.
How did you change when you started taking them?

  • Hi

Thank you for your reply. Yes your right, i feel a weight has been lifted off me, mixed with emotions.

I have been prescribed antidepressants most of my adult life. I wanted to experience life free from medication. I think they help a little but also come with many unwelcome side effects.

I feel as i reduce my medication my "symptoms" may be more apparent. My meltdowns more intense.

I am exploring my options with my new diagnosis. X
