Has another here been a lecturer?

Last year I got offered a job as a university lecturer based on my experience and interview presentation etc. At the time it just worked out that I couldn't take it for financial reasons

I'm still interested in the idea, but wondered what others may have felt working in this world with issues that may come up from ASC?

I have sensory issues with noise, and some exec functioning issues with linear planning. But overall feel I have many other positive things to offer.

  • I worked for 34 years in universities, but not as a lecturer. Working as a research scientist was fine, it played to autistic strengths. After the grant money eventually ran out, I moved into managing scientific services at a university research institute. I found that the enforced interaction with a far greater number of people, than I had previously, was much more stressful. Mentoring one or two undergraduate students doing their 3rd year projects and PhD students was quite rewarding, and I think I was good at it; I'm still in contact with a number of former protegees (one of whom is now a professor). However, I never wanted to teach, or thought that I would be capable of teaching classes for any extended length of time. Sorry to be negative, but this has been my experience. I also found the internal politics within universities to be unpleasant, though it did make me into a trades union activist, which was enjoyable in itself.
