How many people have you disclosed diagnosis to?

I have my assessment in a couple of weeks having suspected for quite awhile that I'm on the spectrum. The only person I've disclosed my suspicion to is my partner, they filled out the 'person who knows me well' questionnaire thing for the psychologist to look at for the assessment as I didn't want to involve my family. Apart from him I've not discussed it with anyone. He actually doesn't even know that I've booked the formal assessment with the psychologist and i might not tell him. I think if I am diagnosed I don't think I'll tell anyone as I'm fearful of people treating me differently due to the stigma. I work full time, I don't think I will let work know, I feel like I don't need special adjustments.

I was just wondering if anyone else has kept this side of them private?

  • I've "smudged" telling people.  Everyone has received an explicit cryptic clue to some extent or another.  "Those who have ears, let them hear.". I've always been curiously bat hit crazy, so if people want to pretend that AI haven't said anything, that's OK with me for mutual comfort.

Understandably, at 50+ years old, having always lived a "normal" but "quirky" life, most people who I have explicitly told need time to process and are inevitably slow to adopt the "oh great" brigade.

    • Some people have cut me dead never to be heard of again.  That surprised me when it happened.  Now, I just feel a little bruised about it.

    • Sorry about the formatting - it's got away from me!
