How many people have you disclosed diagnosis to?

I have my assessment in a couple of weeks having suspected for quite awhile that I'm on the spectrum. The only person I've disclosed my suspicion to is my partner, they filled out the 'person who knows me well' questionnaire thing for the psychologist to look at for the assessment as I didn't want to involve my family. Apart from him I've not discussed it with anyone. He actually doesn't even know that I've booked the formal assessment with the psychologist and i might not tell him. I think if I am diagnosed I don't think I'll tell anyone as I'm fearful of people treating me differently due to the stigma. I work full time, I don't think I will let work know, I feel like I don't need special adjustments.

I was just wondering if anyone else has kept this side of them private?

  • I’ve told my office work colleagues (but relatively few elsewhere in the overall building), most of my tiny circle of friends, my immediate family and a relative or two beyond that who I think would understand rather than judge. Also, my therapist. She knew I was going to get assessed and agreed it was something to look into. I think she could see the signs pretty clearly! Not everyone can. I’ve had all sorts of reactions from mild disbelief to ‘I could have told you that for free’ to ‘oh, ok that makes sense’.
