Probably on autism spectrum

I'm Mike and I should probably begin with the fact that I'm in my early 30s and work in a call centre as a team manager I was in their team for a while and had some experience brought up that I may be autistic after coaching/call listening. The manager has been supportive as I come to terms with this realisation. I didn't believe it at first as my only experience was from media e.g. the Netflix show Atypical. The more I thought about it though behaviours of mine made much more sense such as anxiety and feeling overwhelmed & frustrated in loud settings such as calls where people speak over me or from noisy cars or with loud background noises. I worry that I certainly have other traits and behaviours that come from being on the autism spectrum but is still an adjustment.

I guess I wanted to know from anyone here their opinions on this as well as, and I know this is dumb, but what I would do now after self-diagnosis of autism?

P.s. I did sit down and right a fairly long list of other likely autism spectrum traits so not just the 2 I mentioned.

  • Diagnosis is entirely up to you, some are happy to self identify, that’s entirely valid. I decided that I needed a definitive answer,  the first step is to approach your GP, they are the gatekeeper, fortunately some are very receptive, unfortunately some aren’t. The waiting list is 2-3 years for a diagnosis. The private route is obviously quicker, £1500- £1800. Make a list of how autism affects you, once you start thinking about it all, memories can become quite overwhelming. Take a RADDS-R test or an AQ50 test, it will give you an indicator of autism.
