Spectrum 10k is back again - Boycott Spectrum 10k

Hello fellow autistic people, unfortunately the Spectrum 10k study is back again which could have incredibly harmful implications for our community. In case you don't know, Spectrum 10k is led by Simon Baron Cohen (a very harmful autism researcher) who wants to gain the DNA of 10,000 autistic people to identify the 'cause' of autism.  This is very concerning and the reasons why are detailed below:

  • I can't believe what Baron Cohen has said on that sarah boon link....the "viewpoint" bit. It's made me really cross. There are more talents than men and numbers. And it's not just about talent but empathy. SOMETHING WHICH THE WORLD NEEDS MORE OF RIGHT NOW.

    I've had such a lovely day and now what with this and that numpty on twitter I wish I'd stayed offline!

    I understand that this study has ruined your day, unfornatunately Simon Baron Cohen comment and viewpoint is very dehumanising.  I felt angry and frustrated when I heard that the study started up again.

    We are amazing autistic human beings, we shouldn't just be reduced to what is basically productivity. His comment suggests that we are only valued if we are useful, every human being is worthy regardless of who we are. Our autistic community is amazing, we are such a diverse and empathetic community.

    I am sorry that you wished you stayed offline, I didn't mean to upset anyone but just highlight concerns about this study starting again.
