Christmas madness

I really dont understand the point of Christmas shopping. Why does everyone go out and spend loads of money they probably dont have on useless stuff that other people probably dont even want? I went to the shopping centre yesterday expecting my usual quiet Monday there looking at my bookshop and instead it was masses and masses of people charging round everywhere. I got barged and my foot got stepped on. I could hear a conversation on someones phone discussing what presents to buy and it seemed obvious that he was buying stuff he knew people wouldnt want just for the sake of it. Why? As someone who rarely understands human behaviour I really dont see the point of any of it

Its left me scared to leave the house now until Christmas is over

  • Last Tuesday, I was at Poundland - in Castle Court, Belfast - and the self-service machine had a Godawful automated voice; worst Santa voice EVER. And when I put my bag, to buy the de-icer I was looking, the automated voice said, "One of my Elves will come over to assist you!" (the woman on staff duty had to scan her work card to get me to pay for it)

Also, I saw a young girl - with baby items - who had a Police Tagging GPS on one of her ankles. She loves the five-fingered discounts. Smiley God knows what name the child would have.

Fortunately, I'm more focus on worthwhile gifts; rather than useless tat.

  • My step sister has invited her side of her family over on Christmas day (help!) And she just bought lots of "tat" as well. It all looks like really cheap stuff which will likely be forgotten about in a few weeks time.

I prefer to get more worthwhile gifts if I can.
