Autism, ADHD and diagnostic criteria.

Amended post from previous post about ADHD which was then deleted:

The criteria for an autism diagnosis is the traid of difficulties (differences) in social interaction, communication and repetitive behaviours. There's no mention of executive function difficulties but I would say this is something a lot of autistic folk encounter and this can cause just as much difficulty in day to day life as the triad. And I am aware exec functioning is a difficulty in other ND conditions like dyslexia and dyspraxia.

The reason I'm posting this is I've read a bit about adhd and autism and they are 2 separate things in the DSM but actually a lot of aspects cross over.

  • Yes and its this which confuses me. Cos I do feel contradictions in some aspects of my life and like there is inner conflict. Eg I need things to be tidy but I find this a huge effort. I need things to be on time but I'm always running late no matter how hard i try. I need organisation because I need things to be right but again find this a big effort. I need people interaction but it has to be on my terms and I find it difficult and tiring. I do feel a need for novelty yet need sameness (I can't understand why people go to the same place on holiday every time) and find change incredibly hard. I need routine to function but don't like feeling restricted. I can't identify with the impulsive actions or activities of adhd.
