Level of autism

Hi,

I was diagnosed and told im level 1 Autistic. On the internet it says the mildest form of autism but I feel I struggle with all aspects in my life. I did try and explain although I seem quite at times it's because I shut down in myself when anxious like during my assessment. I'm worried if means I'm just mild and don't need as much help or understanding or I should keep masking because people think I'm weird. Has anyone else found this?

Thank you.

  • There is no such thing as mild autism and I really dislike when people say that.

If autism didn’t affect you, you wouldn’t have got the diagnosis. You need to have significant problems in all 3 areas.

We know how hard our life is, but others do not. Don’t worry what they think. Just know what you are capable of yourself.

  • I feel that the mere fact that so many varied and interrelated behaviours are classed by experts as a 'spectrum' is tantamount to an adnission of defeat (I'm not stating that as a means of casting blame or assuming their lack of care or lack of interest, by the way). It's my view that autism is - in essence - similar to the mystery of consciousness in that it is inexplicable despite all the clues as to its possible solution/explanation. There's, perhaps, a philosophical or existential aspect to autism that is uncanny and stands apart from the more obvious reasons why we are negatively affected.

  • ...which is, admittedly, a glorified way of stating that my troubles are a mystery to me, because they're not at all fully explained by my life-history or medical record.
