I'm now diagnosed

Hi everyone.

I was diagnosed as Autistic in October. My birthday month! I have been told I can get a care assessment which I'm waiting to talk to my therapist. My therapist at first didn't think about autism. But now she's changed her plan as I'm Autistic and says therapy will be different for autism anxiety.

I guess I'm just wondering what help and support is there for Autistic adult. I have my report and it explains my struggles and they are giving me a one off session to have a hospital passport for my autism needs. I feel a little left to just get on and I'm struggling as I know all the things I struggle with now but I suppose do I just live with them?

Are there any good NHS services for autism or any good books to help me learn?

Sorry if I'm not making a huge amount of sense I just want to learn how to cope better and I'm masking less and less now which feels great as well.

  • Hello, welcome to your autistic community! Congratulations on your diagnosis! I assume from the tone of your post you are currently feeling quite positive.

This online autistic community is a great source of knowledge and support to learn more about your autistic experience.

In terms of formal post diagnostic support for late identified autistic adults, there isn’t much. Your own community is probably your best source of guidance, we can learn so much from each other.

Aside from the other recommendations members have given, there is a great autistic led YouTube channel called Aucademy. Aucademy is an autistic led education platform on autistic experience, I love it! It has really helped me understand my own autistic profile in more depth and feel better connected to my own community. I hope you find it useful:
