I'm now diagnosed

Hi everyone.

I was diagnosed as Autistic in October. My birthday month! I have been told I can get a care assessment which I'm waiting to talk to my therapist. My therapist at first didn't think about autism. But now she's changed her plan as I'm Autistic and says therapy will be different for autism anxiety.

I guess I'm just wondering what help and support is there for Autistic adult. I have my report and it explains my struggles and they are giving me a one off session to have a hospital passport for my autism needs. I feel a little left to just get on and I'm struggling as I know all the things I struggle with now but I suppose do I just live with them?

Are there any good NHS services for autism or any good books to help me learn?

Sorry if I'm not making a huge amount of sense I just want to learn how to cope better and I'm masking less and less now which feels great as well.

  • Hey and congrats on your diagnosis! I can hear how positive you're feeling from your text great to hear :)

Unfortunately there's not a lot of support out there for adults with autism but I'm sure there is some. Do you know if there's an autistic society in your area? Might be worth having a look for local organisations.

There's a lot of books out there.  has made a few posts about books on autism and is like an encyclopedia of knowledge on them and what support is available.

Hopefully this page will help you. It's about support for autistic adults after diagnosis. Hopefully it'll be some use to you :)

I hope you can find the support you're looking for.

If you want to you can always ask questions here. Lots of members here are amazing at giving advice and offer so much support and help. It's a lovely community and has helped me many many times.

    Take care.

  • Hi, thank you for your reply. Yes, it's finally made sense of a lot and I feel like I can finally breath.

Ah ok, yes it seems like there isn't a lot of support for those who are adults which is frustrating.

Thank you that's really helpful, I'll definitely take a look.

Im not sure if there is in my area, I will take a look.

Thank you so much, your reply is very kind and helpful. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

    Thank you again! Take care
