Driving test tomorrow

The anxiety is already setting in for my driving test. Its tomorrow morning and I am scared worried anxious already all at once. I'm learning in an auto so that should make it a bit easier, I can't process doing gears and trying to figure everything else out all at once so thought auto would be easier for me and a lot less hassle.

I wasn't originally going to learn but to get to work and the shops it's three bus journeys and this causes me anxiety to especially when its dark. If the bus is late delayed it causes panic and I don't like the hisss it makes when it stops. That's what pushed me to learn to drive.

But now I'm panicking. I don't want to fail tomorrow or worst have a meltdown. I've gone over a lot of the tips today and watched a few videos but that little self doubt version of me is coming to the surface and leaving me with the feeling -- you're going to fail the test.

Wanted to vent this out.

  • Aw, sorry to hear that. Better luck next time!

  • I had wanted to leave a comment for you yesterday to wish you "Good Luck!", but unfortunately NAS went offline before I got the opportunity.

Commiserations! However, I'm pleased you have chosen not to allow this setback to get you down.

  • I needed SEVEN goes, before passing the test.

  • I am sorry you didn't pass in one way, but if you weren't quite ready, you weren't quite ready on that day.

In my opinion, those who I know who have had a couple of goes before passing their test, seem to drive better when they finally get to do the "solo learning" part which comes after the test.

Passing easily on my first attempt, made me a bit "cocky" I feel, which is not a good attitude in a driver...

Next time, think of it less as a "test" and more as a "learning opportunity". I'll be honest, I was surprised when I passed, as I didn't feel at all comfortable driving a car, and considered my test to be a "practice" test.

TBF I'd done a lot of motorcyling beforehand, which meant I had already developed a good ability to build situational awareness, and I had no "fear" so it was just a technical challenge for me.

(Plus the guy walking in front with the flag wasn't a particularly fast walker)

For those who don't get that reference, in the early days when cars first appeared they had to have a guy walking in front carrying a flag to warn people of the new infernal machinery clattering down the road!
