Confidentiality ... mis-use by a social worker?

A social worker is refusing to RECEIVE information about a vulnerable individual, who is under confidentiality.

Can they do that?

We are not requesting information from them, just sending in vital information to try and avoid a repeated trauma / breakdown.

Thank you.

  • I get a lot of training about this in relation to my work.

Information sharing for safeguarding purposes is very important, but why and how it is shared is also important.

It should be shared if a person's safety is at risk

It should be shared in a secure manner. If you are sending from an insecure email, that might be a cause for concern, but the social worker should suggest an alternate means of sharing the information.

It also depends on what your relationship with the individual is. As a professional (teacher, health care provider) etc there are channels you should go through. If you are a family member, you should also have ways to contact them.
