Researchers at the University of Hertfordshire are researching the experiences of autistic people within the benefits system and applying for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Past research has reported on how changes to the benefits system affect people’s emotional wellbeing and sense of identity; however, there is no research into the experiences of neurodiverse people. This research aims to better understand the experience of autistic people who have applied for PIP and the impact on wellbeing and identity.
This research has no links to the Department for Work and Pensions.
Who can take part?
The research team would like to hear from people who:
• are age 18-67 years old.
• have applied for PIP within the last 3 years and received the outcome.
• have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Condition or Asperger’s Syndrome.
What do I need to do?
We will invite you to an interview to talk to a researcher about your experience of applying for PIP. Interviews can be via video-call, telephone or using instant messaging. This will take approximately 60 minutes. It may be longer or shorter depending upon how much you want to talk. We will also ask you to fill in a pre-interview survey to help us understand any adaptations that would make you feel comfortable during the interview.
Deadline and contact details:
Please email the research team by 30th November 2022 to register your interest.
