Thinking about getting a diagnosis

Hi, I'm new here and am looking for some advice.

I have an existing diagnosis of Dyspraxia, which I think is correct for me, but lately I've been wandering if I could have Autism as well.

The complicating part for me is that I was assessed as a child, but I was viewed to not meet the criteria. I know women are less likely to get diagnosed due to masking (I think I perhaps do that), and my assessment was 20ish years ago, so it is a while ago.

Does anyone have similar experiences of not getting diagnosed on the first assessment, but later getting one? Is there any benefit of getting a diagnosis, given my existing dyspraxia diagnosis? I know it is possible to have both, so I'm not disputing the diagnosis I have, I'm just wandering if I could have both and if it is worth pursuing.

  • My daughter didn’t get a diagnosis at 15 on the NHS. She did mask for all her sessions, just not the one where we told she was told she didn’t have anything wrong with her Rolling eyes

We went private at 17, and she was diagnosed with Autism, ADHD and Dyspraxia. She didn’t mask. They used her previous report to point out how and why her symptoms and traits were blatantly played down and ignored for the report.
