Coping with a big change

I just wanted some advice from everyone about how to cope with a big change. One of the biggest things with my autism is struggling very badly to cope with and process change. I can't really process it much either

Our new baby is due Friday and I am so happy about it and cant wait to meet her but I am struggling mentally with the change as its one of the biggest changes we could have in life

Has anyone got any tips or techniques for coping with big change, even good changes?

  • Congratulations! Very exciting to have a little one on the way, but also, a huge change as you have stated.

Ultimately, it helps me to know when a change is a positive one and it also helps to know in advance. Perhaps these are two factors that help you, but then again, maybe not. We are all different. Change is change and that can be hard to process so it’s definitely appropriate to feel those mixed emotions. I can most definitely relate.

Visualisation may help here. Preparation for her arrival, speaking to her. All of these things make it almost as if she is already here and perhaps will reduce the feeling of change upon her arrival.

It’s hard to know what exactly will help, as ultimately it will be different (and amazing) when she does arrive, but maybe these ideas will have an impact. Also, having someone to talk to during this change is a good thing. With a new baby, finding the time will be challenging, but it’s important to speak (or write) about your feeling in these moments (in my opinion anyway).

Congratulations once again and best of luck to you and your family.
