College exclusion

Hi

I posted on here a few days ago to say that my daughter who has Asd ,social anxiety and depression had a meltdown at her specialist college and hit another student who has been deliberately annoying her.

This was on the back of a long morning when we had a meeting to discuss a quiet space she could use to regulate. This has still not been sorted even though its in her ehcp.

My daughter has recently been discharged from the intensive support team and the college received a profile for guidance from a lot of specialists

But still they decide to exclude her for the rest of the week!!!!!

They now decide to arrange a meeting with an educational psychologist to work with our daughter.

Im feeling very annoyed and we will be appealing the exclusion as they have not considered her sensory needs and mental health.

Any advice would be appreciated Pray

  • The college has a duty of care, the disability discrimination act is on your side. They will be aware of this. It might be worth considering legal support if the work with the educational psychologist isn't supportive enough as it's having a negative effect on your daughters education, she is suffering a loss. I'd be very clear with your communication with the college that the quiet space, as previously discussed in her ehcp, is what she needs and you're disappointed it wasn't provided earlier.

Also need to point this out to your daughter that it isn't her fault, and it's because the support wasn't provided quick enough. I should imagine she is hugely distressed with the incident. She's likely being harder on herself than she should be.
