Anxious i wont get my diagnosis

I’m pretty sure im autistic, but i recently went to the gp and im so worried i didnt say the right things to be put up for an assessment.

i may not have said everything i wanted to say and the man even said “ you may be declined cus your probably mildly autistic” im so worried as i have waited so long. Does anyone have any advice and could i go for a second appointment?

He still put me on the waiting list so i guess that’s a good sign, what do i do if i get declined for a diagnosis Disappointed im very panicked.

another question, when do i get my letter to say i am or am not on the waiting list? It’s been only a week tho Slight smile

  • I am glad the link is useful for you, you are very welcome.

Thanks, good luck on your own autistic discovery journey.

I hope the process is positive for you if you decide to use that company.

  • Oh wow that’s actaully really helpful, thank you so much for your response. I hope you get to come off the waiting list soon :)

  • You don’t need to go for a second appointment, as you spoke to your GP and he made the referral for you. Next step is to wait for an appointment. If you in any doubt, ask to speak to the GP to clarify what happens next.

  • Hello

Sorry  the GP said that to you, it is really ignorant. There is no such thing as ‘mildly autistic’ you either are autistic or you are not.

Also our community is so diverse, there is not one way to be autistic.

You can always always ask for a second opinion. Even if you are declined for diagnosis (I know diagnosis is important for various reasons including accessing support) you can  still identify as autistic and gain support from this community and culture. Also you can still advocate for your autistic needs in employment as the employer has a legal obligation to accommodate neurodivergent staff regardless of formal identification.

You are still autistic regardless of formal identification.

All I know about the waiting list is that it is very long. I was put on the waiting list in March last year and I am still waiting. The waiting times are further compounded by the pandemic.

Alternatively you could go private (I know this is not affordable for a lot of people) , this means the process should be a lot quicker.

    I hope my response helps.
