Gossip

In my local area, everyone talks about the various men and women cheating on their spouses. Well, I visited my neighbour this afternoon, for a chat, and the workmen came to get my oil tank working; again. The man who saw us had a joke that we are an item, but I'm worried about lies being told about me. She is in a relationship with a man roughly the same age as her; 57.

Disclaimer, women who believe we're having an affair will have her hair pulled.

  • Dude !  Trust me, this sounds like a mid 1970's porn script.

I don't mean to denigrate any heart-felt anxiety on the matter, but I'm sure that in this instance, you have nothing to worry about - except the worry itself.

If my attempt at reassurance isn't sufficient, a practical solution might be for you to raise the matter yourself - and bring it up with one of your (God-forsaken sounding gossipy neighbours) in joke format - very much as you have above.  That should emphasis the point that you have nothing to hide etc.  You have a certifiable alibi for why you were there too.

I expect many will say "just sod your neighbours and let them think whatever they bloody well like" - and I also subscribe to that point of view too, but I'm assuming that this is genuinely bothering you - so thought I would throw a possible approach for you to consider.

Assuring you of my best intentions.
