Can't Draw

I really struggle with drawing. I think it's the coordination and concentration it requires. My lines are always wiggly and either too big on one side or too small on the other. I find it frustrating and it's extremely tiring, usually I'm feeling sleepy before I finish drawing.

I own lots of pencils and colours but I can't really use them. I see a lot of cool drawings and watch artists on YouTube and I'm sad I can't draw like they do.

  • I would get a basic book on practical drawing. If you get a good one, it will give you simple ways to break down any object, person, face, animal or scene into basic geometrical shapes. You then assemble these shapes to create a sketch which is in proportion to what you see, following this framework sketch, you work around it to create a more detailed and accurate final drawing.

  • I can't draw for love nor money. I can however (sort of) sculpt.

My money is try something for a while (which I did with drawing when I was a kid) and if you aren't good at it, BIN IT unless you just enjoy doing it for your own pleasure.

Life will make you struggle enough, your interests and hobbies are supposed to be a counter point to that part..

  • You might want to try sketching for now, as sketches are not meant to be precise lines and really neat, so you won't need to concentrate so hard and you can use a light touch so not much physical energy either.  You can sketch in colours too, or use watercolour paints if easier.  Its best to tind a way that works for you, and later on you might be able to sketch light lines and then go over them slowly to make them neat.  Watch some videos on sketching.
