Autism cards

Does anyone have an autism card or bracelet to alert others? I've seen you can get them but I haven't bought one yet I don't know if I should or not. I guess it would be useful in the event of shut/meltdown. I have an epilepsy bracelet just wondering if I should do something for my autism in case of an emergency.

  • The National Autistic Society online shop has cards that you can buy (they are folded 'paper card'), or download for free and print out yourself. There are many plastic 'credit card' style 'Autism Alert' cards available to buy online, from various sources, I think Amazon stock them. As far as I am aware there are no officially sanctioned UK government or NHS cards available. There is a semi-official 'hidden disabilities 'Sunflower lanyard' available here: hiddendisabilitiesstore.com/

They are useful if you are liable to selective mutism, or think that you might be in certain situations, or if you could have a meltdown in public. They are also useful if you become very anxious and need to get out of a situation quickly and have to indicate to someone in authority that you really do have to skip a queue or get out of the nearest exit right away.
