Was it Aspergers?

As a teenager I attended a theatre group. A few years into me joining a teenage girl who was a few years younger joined, she attended a residential school for children and teenagers with Autism. She had always attended SEN schools. My Mum said she had mild Aspergers, although her traits were very obvious. She was unable to read but taught herself to read when she joined the group in order to learn her lines for the shows she had speaking parts in. Another member of the group told me that her mental age or developmental age was of a young child. Did she have Aspergers or another form of Autism?

  • No such thing as mild Autism,

Maybe she is Dyslexic too, which is why she couldn’t read well.

Aspergers and Autism are all one and the same. Even if one is High functioning, you might still see obvious traits. It is a spectrum after all, and none of us look or act the same way. We tend not to use the terms high/low functioning either.
    We have 3 support levels.

She might have been what is now, level 1.
