If you could go back to any time or place in history (not to live, just to visit) where would you go?
I think I would like to go to the GDR (East Germany). I know there was a lot wrong with the communist system and the police etc but I just love the idea of a society with no materialism. A place where it didnt matter what designer lables were on your clothes cos everyone had the same stuff. No one judged you on your car or the size of your house cos everyone had the same houses and the same simple Trabant cars. Your worth wasnt defined by your job, people like factory workers were treated the same as celebrities.
There was no materialism, no people constantly striving for the latest gadgets and technology and no consumer society telling you that you couldnt be happy unless you had all the latest material things and possessions and that the only way to get them was work till you had a nervous breakdown.
The kind of society where none of that matters really appeals to me
(Id want to go back to the 80s when things were more free, not the 50s)
Where would everyone else like to go?
