Due to my symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorder, why do some people think that I am a savant? I am not a savant, I just am very intelligent in my restricted interests.

i heard it that way from dragon age. there was this character that was clearly mentally ill but had a skill for enchanting items. patronized and treated like a child but in one area you found him surrounded by the corpses of all the foes he had slain. which probably would have gave him a side quest back story but i guess the writers just didnt bother.
However when most people say savant they use it as a short hand for idiot savant. A term they’ve probably only heard a handful of times in the odd documentary about Kim peek and the film rain man. Most people who use that term won’t know it’s French or what the word means in French.
Idiot savants (the medical term) generally have one or more amazing skills that they can’t explain and that don’t seem to have been acquired through study.
geniuses have supper high intelligence but it doesn’t follow they know all that much if they haven’t studied.
you have gained specialist knowledge through dedicated study … the correct term would be expert. You may possibly be some level or degree of expert in your field.
id make a good servant, i take orders within reason, im loyal within reason, i dont question or protest i can do whatever im told and not care if its possible because whether something is possible isnt my concern and is more the concern of the person giving the orders.
Because they don’t understand what Autism is.
I would tell them to look the word up in the dictionary. It certainly doesn’t mean being well informed on specific subjects.
Napoleon took 167 'savants' with him on his Egyptian expedition, scholars, scientists, linguists etc. By that definition, I would probably count as a savant.
I do wish psychologists could've been more responsible with the language they use to educate on Autistic "Neuro-Wiring", which is a better expression even if it takes creative liberty.
By symptoms, I presume you have certain traits which appear differently than Non-Autistic society.
Throughout history we've had remarkably intelligent individuals without who, we would've never advanced technologically or scientifically.
It's a bit of a Novelty to someone who is non-autistic and fluid with social expressions and communication, to meet someone or know someone who either hasn't been taught a few principles of exchange for social interaction but also thinks or reasons beyond the capacity of most. Sometimes people feel embarrassed or in contrast, dull, dumb or redundant.
There will be a valid reason why you don't expand your interests. But I wonder if you can find a way of being interested in anything should a thing you have a certain talent for or toward understanding be connected?
Anyway - please expand on what you enjoy and what social problems you find as there might be a reason others respond the way they do.
