So, for years I struggled through commuting on train and buses. Suffering panic attacks, daily bouts of diarrhea, anxiety, and all the horribleness that came with it.

Last year I bought an electric scooter. I would cycle but it bothers my IBD. It has changed my life!!

I also changed to work closer to home so I could do this. But, still, the silence speaks volumes about my sensitivity to noise, and changing environments.

Ebikes are legal in the UK. Escooters still aren't, which is laughable. But they are if you use an escooter that is part of a scheme authorised by the government (Bath, Liverpool, Bristol I think all have them) that makes no sense!! Oh yeah, money that's right.

Anyway, I would like to share this to build support amongst this community. It has totally changed my life, and I'm not being dramatic here. I'm now more independent, and happy, and I'm helping the planet by not using polluting transport options. Aaaand, saving myself a fortune to boot!

  • I cycle to work, so you could say I'm saving the planet

except I'm not going to live long enough to see it

it takes me 15min to get there, along the way I have to pass 6 traffic lights, I'm standing in between cars on red light, and inhaling their exhausts

often I can't get to the front because all those people driving cars stops sideways on lights

you could say that way back is easier because I cycle back after midnight, except traffic lights are no longer on automatic change,

and 4 of those traffic lights don't react on cyclists to begin changing to green, so if they are on red, you can wait until morning, or until a car shows up

and 2 of them start changing to red when I'm approaching them (tell me why?!!), 2m before the lights they go orange, when I'm passing them they are already red, I am no longer waiting after I waited once 10min and they were still red, without any traffic acress,

I almost got hit few days ago, because this time they were changing red for me because someone was driving on a road across

so yeah, my days are numbered

In that situation you are supposed to dismount, push your bike across the junction and then mount up again.

  • I just googled it up, The Road Traffic Act 1988

thanks. I didn't know I can get fined

  • if you get off the push bike it's no longer a road vehicle so yes. The law is if you are on your bike it's a vehical and if you're off the bike pushing it's not a road vehicle. Its why you can push your bike down the pavement but you're not allowed to ride it on the pavment (unless in a marked cycle lane).
