Social Rules

When I filled in a referral form for the local Integrated Autism Service (IAS) I was asked 'Do you have an example of an unspoken social rule that you have struggled with?'

I struggled to answer this question as I did not understand what was meant by an unspoken social rule.

Therefore if anyone can give me examples of an 'unspoken social rule' then it might help me understand what they are referring to ahead of my assessment.

  • Society is full of unwritten rules that we dont understand. Like why cant people just say what they feel?

Its like when theres a table of food at a buffet and no one wants to be the first person to tuck in so they all stand around awkwardly for ages.

Gift giving is another one and dont get me started on Christmas cards. Apart from propping up the card industry, what is the point.
But I digress. Basically, an unwritten rule is any time when other people seem to know how to behave in a situation but we dont. Like they have read a manual that we havnt been given if that makes sense
