Working and employment

I am currently working full time and I'm finding it really hard to go to work and interact with people every day. It's draining the life out of me.

I can't keep up with everyone else around me, going to work and being able to engage with the public. I'm finding it really hard, I can't even look people in the eye. Today I was sent home after a meltdown.

My workplace know about my autism and are very supportive, but my job is unfortunately very customer service based. I am a tour guide.

I just want to be able to go to work like everyone else and not struggle with something that seems so simple.

I would love any advice you can offer.

  • It looks like you hit burnout.

The problem is if you're working to many hours, you don't have enough time to recharge, the need to mask in customer service job takes a toll.

I'm 43, I worked full time or double full time since I was 25. Then bullying at work started and I just crashed, fallen into pieces, I couldn't leave bed for 2 months. The really bad case of burnout.

I had to go back to work and they kept forcing me to work 45h a week, so I couldn't recover from burnout completely and I lived like a zombie for year and a half until I quit. Then I was diagnosed, I learnt some, and in new job I told them I can't work more then 35h per week continously, to remain mentaly healthy I can work 30h a week, I was lucky they were OK with that.

so, working less hours is probably going to solve your problem, after you recover and rest from current to many for to long
