Question if Autism Spectrum Disorder can be a precursor to Schizotypal Personality Disorder

I wonder if Autism Spectrum Disorder can be a precursor to Schizotypal Personality Disorder, because I meet some diagnostic criteria for odd beliefs, lack of many friends and paranoid ideation.

  • One is not a precursor to the other, but people can have both. Only an assessment would tell you.

That said some of things you think are a PD might look the same as a consequence of autism, but the reasons behind the experience would be different. Lots of autistic people find it difficult to make friends because of our differences in social communication, not the same thing as a PD at all and the apparent paranoia can result from constantly not being able to work out what people's motives are rather than a delusional belief that everyone means you harm.

If you are worried, get it checked out.

  • No, they're not the same thing. They are not connected.

Recent research into schizophrenia has raised the possibility of it being related to gut biome issues, ie wrong tummy bugs.

Autism has other possible causes, such as epigenetics and hormone imbalances.

Most people have odd beliefs when you get to know them well enough to open up, a lot of introverts are fine not making friends, anxiety is apparently quite common and can make you imagine stuff
