How do I know if someone is lying to me or not? My core symptom of Autism Spectrum Disorder makes it hard for me to learn from my mistakes from being taken advantage of, and sometimes the police are involved.

  • If you can't tell whether or not someone is lying perhaps another way would be to ask yourself how serious the consequences are if they are lying - is trusting them likely to put you in a dangerous/illegal/seriously uncomfortable situation? If so, it's better to be cautious and risk upsetting someone than put yourself in a bad position. A lot of neurotypical people struggle with this as well - some people are very convincing and uncaring about the trouble and hurt they cause to other people.
