Question if olfactory hallucinations can be explained by Autism Spectrum Disorder

Can olfactory hallucinations be explained by Autism Spectrum Disorder? I have sensory issues and I sometimes smell things that are not there.

  • Hallucinations, or sensory cross wiring? Yeah, I sometimes smell gas, where there is none. I'm a synesthete and I've concluded some other aspect of the environment, other than ordinarily olfactory, must sometimes be triggering my sense of smell in odd ways...well, if words have colour for me and even sometime make me nauseous, it would stand to reason.

Syneasthsia of course is not limited to autistic people, but it is another neurological  difference which often goes with autism.
