Finding work

I'm an adult on the autism spectrum who struggles with social anxiety and I have been searching for a job. I don't have any special skills I can fall back on so I feel my options are severely limited. I am currently doing an induction for a manufacturer but it's only a 6 month contract so I'm anxious about what I would do afterwards if the contract isn't renewed. I suppose I would like to ask what other people's experiences have been finding work and how you found jobs that suited your needs.

  • I am only 25 but I have had over 30+ jobs. They never last long for multiple reasons outside of my control.

if your feeling anxious about your current role then you possible know what route this manufacture may be intending to next.

I’ve been in similar situation where they keep me round until my contact ends and the employer finds a neurotypical individual they like more.

In other similar situations my probationary period was repeatedly extender month after month until they found someone else and stop putting me on the router or giving me enough work to provide me with a liveable wage. A few times I waited weeks before I knew I was terminated.

in a few apprenticeships I did they sh*t canned me after completing apprenticeship coursework and replaced me with two apprentices because they would save money in wages.

I’ve been so desperate for money I’ve took jobs that I should of never worked where I was butt of every joke and it escalates and I get physically I’ll or hospitalised and they used my autism as an excuse to place the blame on me leading to termination.

I've been forced out of workplace for unintentionally showing up co-worker by just getting on with the job. Resulted in a co-worker harassing me out of the workplace.

from my experience with employment programmes and schemes are useless. They tried to force you into seasonal work or work that no one else wants to do and their not long term or sustainable. Many jobs they push you into have high staff turn over and workplace in general are toxic and drama riddled.

I’ve left a role voluntary because they put me danger situation.

Their nothing you can do, your going to have to keep job hopping until one fits. Their out there apparently I’m just really unlucky. If you doing the job to reasonable standard and they terminate you it not your fault. Theirs a reason why less than 5% of individuals with autism are in full time employment. It because workplace is social construct and we’re not designed to excel In it. Just be kind to yourself and seek help soon as possible if you get terminated the longer you wait the less options you have or wait an unrealistic wait for benefits.
