Hi everyone I’m new to the group I am looking for a reputable company to do as assessment on myself as everyone keeps telling me I have ASD but to go through a gp it’s over a 2 year waiting list
I know that the main autism support centre that covers mine and neighbouring Local Authorities says that they don't accept private diagnostic reports and they have to at least to some extent reassess you.
It's part of the reason I'm really annoyed that they keep moving the date they say they'll have my assessment done by. I don't have an alternative.
That's very helpful, thank you!
I do have a GP referral, but the 2+ years waiting list means another 2+ years without the support and understanding I needed yesterday! My main concern with going non-NHS, then, is whether the NHS will recognise a private diagnosis - apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere on the forums, but does anyone have any experience with this?
There doesn’t appear to be any info on the clinical psychologists. I would want to see their credentials, experience, and qualifications with a bio so I could make an informed choice.
Of the places I researched for myself, this information was readily available to view.
research alot of other things first, i found schizoid personality disorder also kinda suited my experience too... and BPD up to a point based on emotion flipping. could see another like that and then narrow it down more first. schizoid was a swerve ball changing definition as it wasnt what i thought it was and did kinda suit me more. then theres also others like schizotypal and none of them are actually related in any way to schizophrenia but are all seperate things with definitions worth reading and comparing first.
thank you Jenny
Hi,
I don't know what the usual practice is for GP's, but mine provided me with details of a company who provide online consultations which I could use if I didnt want to wait. psychiatry-uk.com.
I decided to use them and haven't had any issues so far (I'm just waiting on the official paperwork/report). It was £900.

Yes, most NHS autism services have very long waiting lists and most private assessments are very expensive. I've experienced both (for myself and for my son). If I were starting out now I'd consider these guys, although it's a new service and Id really like to see more feedback on it.

Hi NAS80148, if you're looking into getting your diagnosis privately it is important the professional you see has experience of autism spectrum disorders. You can find details of diagnostic services on our Autism Services Directory in the Assessment and diagnosis section:
