I really need an assessment

Hello, my mum introduced me to this site because I am waiting for an autism assessment at the moment. At the moment it seems really likely I do have autism, as I have displayed characteristics most my life.

The problem is, the NHS is really taking it's time. It has almost been a year and I only just got a letter, basically acknowledging the existence of me.

What do I do? Should I stay on this site? I have never been even decent at making friends, so maybe likeminded people will be better?

In the meantime, what are your favourite games?

  • I am also getting very frustrated whilst waiting for Lancashire Autism Services to get in touch with news about assessment.

I was referred to them in Feb, I have tried calling them dozens of times, even got my GP to try and contact them but with no luck.

All I want to know is IF I am on their waiting list and how long it is likely to be but I cannot even get through to them. VERY frustrating.

I guess then only thing we can do is wait.

  • Dear NAS80311,

Thank you for sharing this with our community. You may like to look at our information about autism spectrum disorders:

If you were interested in finding out if you are on the autism spectrum, you would need to have a formal diagnostic assessment. You may find it useful to have a look at the following link for further information about diagnosis and the benefits of getting one:

    https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/diagnosis

Furthermore, it is important the professional you see has experience of autism spectrum disorders. You can find details of diagnostic services on our Autism Services Directory in the Assessment and diagnosis section:

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards,

    Eunice Mod

  • Hi, welcome, I am only into my 3rd week of waiting since seeing my GP, that is bad enough, checking for mail each day only for nothing to arrive is very unsettling. I can only imagine how bad it is having to wait for over a year for a letter.

You should definitely stay on here, in my short time on here I have found the community to be very supportive and friendly. My wait is being eased by knowing others are going through similar things.

  • Should I stay on this site?

There is no rule that you need a diagnosis to be on this site. Btw today I played some masseffect2

  • Hi :) Stay on the site for sure if you want to! This community is amazing and we welcome everyone :). I am also currently being assessed for autism- I think a lot of people on this site are in a similar situation :). I like playing board games and since the pandemic started I started playing some online on boardgame arena (it has lots and lots of free boardgames) - I play Seasons and Race for the Galaxy :) What are your favourite games?
