Resources in the U.S.??

So it seems as if the U.K. is much better than the U.S. with autism awareness and access to resources. I desperately need help finding resources. Ideally I would like to see a neuropsych or an autism specialist via telehealth for the sake of convenience with my work schedule, but honestly I am open to anything. It seems as if here in the States, trying to get an autism diagnosis is like everything else here, marred in trying to make a dollar. It's so frustrating. It's not something I'm questioning... I have 2 degrees in neuro specific fields and am pursuing a career in neurosurgery, but rather I'm ready to start jumping through the hoops to getting that diagnosis. I also don't want to throw down a few grand to make that happen.

Does anyone anywhere know of any legit diagnostic services, not necessarily limited to the State you are in, that is more into helping others, validating those seeking for answers in the U.S. Feel free to DM me. Thank you so much in advance for anyone taking the time to respond.

  • I had my ADHD diagnosed by a neuropsychologist during a vacation to the USA - he did all the testing and produced a report in two days. This was a psychologist in Albuquerque who had diagnosed my friend and his son. I was able to use the report to get extra support at university in the UK, and also for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority.

There are several services in the UK that offer online diagnosis, but they cost the equivalent of US$1.5k to 2k. Look for a "Chartered Psychologist" who is regulated by the Health Professions Council, or a psychiatrist who is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and registered with the General Medical Council.  It would be up to your insurers whether they would reimburse overseas clinicians - I presume you would need to pay upfront and claim it back. The other issue is why you need the diagnosis and what any relevant agency requires, e.g. is autism something you need to declare to your professional licensing board or DMV?

    Good luck ...
