Recently diagnosed adult.

Hi, a newbie here.

i have just been diagnosed at 49. I have read some of the discussions here and it was as if people have described my life through their eyes. When I was told I have autism my entire life suddenly made sense. Everything came in to order, the confusion, the sudden onsets of panic, wondering why nobody could understand why I was doing things or reacting to certain situations the way that I was. As I’m sure many of you will understand.

Anyway, I’m relieved to finally know who I am and be able to relate to somebody.

  • I show emotions, but in a very limited way. Often I just copy the emotions of other people: I adopt the behavior and facial expressions. There are three, four, I don’t know, five of some sort [emotions]: surprise, laughter, joy, slight dissatisfaction. They are simple. Rough and expressionless. It seems to people that I am not interested in them, that I do this to look normal and not offend. I want everything to be.
