I care for my 11 year old son who has low functioning autism, pre-verbal and learning disabilities.
We are members of our local NAS as well as a couple of other local autism charities and groups.
The thing that I’ve found is all the other kids at all these tend to be Asperger's and high functioning.
If I’m honest, I have very little in common with the parents as the behaviors my son displays sound alien to the other parents send I can see how aghast they are when I’ll mention a behaviour. They also seem to be a bit taken back that he’s 11 and is unable to have a conversation with me.
This makes me feel even more isolated than before and I feel like I’m the only parent in the world with a child like mine.
Just wondered if anyone knew of any groups or charities etc that focus on children and families of the lower end of the spectrum?
