Looking for a Private Diagnosis

Hi there,

I am looking to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later  when it comes to getting myself an assessment.

Anyone recommend a faster track than waiting and waiting and miscommunicating and miscommunication with my GP?

Money is a slight issue but I would rather work my socks off and save to get an assessment than go through what I have been going through with my GP.

Many thanks in advance for all the advice and comments and I look forward to reading the hopeful answers to my woes.

  • I went private, cost £1400 for autism diagnosis and then a further £700 for ADHD (if applicable to you). I found the centre 25 miles from me by googling adult autism diagnosis. I made sure they used the NICE recommended process and they did. This was 3 months ago.  If your daughter is under 18 you need to more careful about a private diagnosis as a lot of schools will not accept a diagnosis outside the NHS,  assuming she would need additional support. Hope that helps:)

  • Try the directory here on the NAS site.

I was diagnosed by the wonderful NAS own Lorna Wing Centre. Quicker than the NHS but long lists too. That said more expert I know for sure.

Bless you. I know I felt strongly when I was assessed that I was lucky. I had the IQ and research skills to get me that far, and then a job and an income to pay.. .My soul is screaming for my brothers and sisters who have none of those things and yet deserve and are in more desperate need of the best.

  • I went private. As did my daughter.  It was quite fast. I made sure I found someone who had already diagnosed women and girls, and who had a special interest in Autism.
Money was a problem for me too, but I made it work. A good practise will let you pay in instalments if you ask. I decided on half before, half after.
