Unable to speak in groups

Does anyone have any advice for someone who is unable to speak in group situations? I can speak to people one-to-one, but find it almost impossible to get the words out when I'm in a group of people; especially if I don't know them very well or if it's on Zoom (whether I know them well or not). Any suggestions or tips on how to address this would be much appreciated, thanks!

  • It is very frustrating. So often, I have a point to make in a conversation, and by the time I recognise an opening for me to say something the conversation has moved on and my intended point is no longer relevant. In conversations at home - wife and two adult daughters - I will sometimes put my hand up to indicate that I want to say something! A little strange, but it works.
