assessment

hi all im new here.  just recieved my questionares to fill in as ive been refered for an assessment.  i can fill in most of the forms but one is for a parent with questions from birth and childhood.  i have no parent to fill it in im in my 40s.  also i wont have a someone who knows me well to attend the interview with me just a social worker.  will this go against me, thanks

  • Hello, I was in the same situation- I am in my 40s and both my parents died several years ago. I explained this and filled the form in (and added five pages of my own notes) explaining this. I didn’t have anyone with me during my assessment interviews and neither of these things were a problem. I got my diagnosis regardless. I think a lot of adults will be in the same position and I’d imagine the diagnosticians will account for that. Good luck!

  • thanks i think its gonna be a long wait until the actual assessment letter states they will let me know when ive reached top of the list and says in excess of 10 months.  how do people cope with the wait just seems wrong you have to wait so long for something so important

  • I agree, the waiting time is really difficult to deal with when you are so desperate for answers. Mine took exactly a year from initial form-filling to assessment/ diagnosis.
