Sensitivity to noise and sounds

Noise is one of the things I have struggled with throughout life. I am very sensitive to sound and find noise particularly painful a lot of the time. I know that I am approaching burnout at the moment, my sensitivity to, and intolerance of, noise increasing recently is a bit of a warning sign for me. But I do wonder if others experience the same and, if so, what strategies do you use to cope with this sensitivity or other sensitivities that you face?

It is hard to describe the feeling to others- pain is the best I can do. I really hate engine and generator noise, as well as pots and pans bashing together.

  • I think I am fairly sensitive to noise, although I'm not altogether sure this isn't just suggestibility - a few years ago during a period of stress due to work, I saw an article stating that high pitched reverberation is linked to stress levels in employees. Thereafter I couldn't stop noticing the reverberation everywhere.. Thing is, I hadn't really noticed it prior to that..
