Before my assessment I wrote on the questionnaire that I made eye contact and was good at it, but that I did it entirely consciously, which I do, and this is soooo not the neurotypical method! I time when to make and break eye contact and how long to hold it. This seemed to do the trick, as my ability to make eye contact was not remarked upon at all.
Thanks that's helpful misconceptions can make it hard to tell people. The husband bit was familiar to me as he helps where I find things hard and knows why. I can do some things others do but it is harder and need more time to unwind after. It explains how I can do things in my job that don't fit the classic way some think of us.
The thing I haven't grasped yet is when someone asks me to do something which is too challenging explaining why as I don't think they would understand.
