Advice on benefits

My partner who is diagnosed is having problems applying for benefits atm, pip just takes long and we’re appealing right now, so we got told we can apply for ESA, as he wants to work but feels like he will need support within employment. ESA say he can’t apply due to not contributing enough NI, which is understandable as he has been out of work for 3 years due to stress and anxiety and whilst waiting to be diagnosed.

They say to apply for UC, he applied today but because we live together it has to be a joint claim even though I work full time, I’m on a slightly higher than normal wage due to working a lot during the pandemic and due to staff shortages (I’m a carer) so at the moment I’m paying for everything but living pay day to pay day, we’re a bit anxious about that as we don’t think they will pay out due to my circumstances, is there anything we can do to help out claim? Like would a doctors note help or a letter from the team that diagnosed him?

he feels like he’s better off working right now but I don’t want him to rush so quickly into it just in case it causes him stress, is anyone in the same boat?
