I'm concerned about my DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) evidence.

I got my DSA evidence form back yesterday. I had to give it to reseption and come back when they had filled it in because I wasn't able to book an in person appointment. I am concerned as all they wrote in it was that I was "awaiting an autism assessment" and they didn't mention anything about dislexic tendencies or that I have panic attacks even though I mentioned these things when I asked about getting the form filled out. I feel like a lot of these issues would have been avoided if I was able to have an in person appointment and talk to the doctor when they were filling the form out to make sure they weren't missing anything. I'm not really sure what I should do. I have emailed the person I am in contact with at The Sheffield College about it but I don't know if there is any more I can do.

  • Hi Abigail, it's very frustrating trying to get a GP appointment these days.
With regards to DSA - the GP can evidence mental health difficulties, but not autism or dyslexia. Dyslexia has to be a post-16 educational psychologist report, and autism needs to be an official diagnosis.
If you ask the GP to evidence your mental health struggles, you can apply for DSA for that and get support quicker than waiting for your autism or dyslexia assessment. You can add them in later.

    Does that make sense?
