Help Getting Diagnosis

I called my GP before Christmas to get referral for an Autism "test".

I was text a generic A4 piece of paper with various random helpline numbers which were non-specific to getting a referral.

Do I continue at my GP,  or are there other avenues I can explore please?

Thank you.

  • If you want to go down the NHS route then a referral from your GP is necessary. You will need to get back to your GP and ask for a clinical referral for an autism assessment. If you have sufficient money, then you can refer yourself directly for a private assessment, which will be very, very much quicker. Costs vary, but ensure that the private healthcare providers are registered with the NHS and  that any clinicians performing an assessment are GMC registered. Prices seem to be around £1,000 for a diagnostic assessment.
